Re: Faux FOSS Fundamentalists - It's time to put our foot down
Java rocks.
Having been around since the unix days, I am offended by the title of the thread. The author of the thread needs to listen to hpr episode 0407 and then might start to have a clue.
The real fun starts with Oracle taking over Sun, but there are a few hurdles to go.
Apparently the author of the thread is also not reading the news.

If it was not for a few alleged shyster corporate ip lawyers, there would not be a mess and need for the legal eagles.

2. Anti-corporate conspiracy theories and hatred (especially those focused towards Microsoft)
It is no theory, it is fact. Microsoft has been adjudicated a monopoly and allegedly still under scrutiny by the US justice system here as well as in other countries.

3. Taking away my freedom of choice (I'm looking at you Fedora)
No one is taking your freedom away. You can still load mono and what ever else you want into Fedora as well as for any distro. No one is stopping you. Just do not force encumbered software on the rest of us. I find that I load in lots of software that does not come on the basic install cd for all the distros. In fact I usually do a net install, so lots of things are added. I have even taken my own source code from the Microsoft platform and ported it to linux. I also download other developer's source files for regular apps and for the web server. Sourceforge.net is awesome. Sounds like someone is just too lazy to install software.
