His stage presence is difficult to watch. He has been low on details, high on hyperbole. But, really, those are the major issues. The real key problem is that he comes across as just plain crazy. Even if you agree 100% with the things he says... he seems insane. A great example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I25UeVXrEHQSo, even if he is completely right... he's the wrong spokesperson. Hmm this description reminds me of someone else, all though I think it is kind of harsh to call people insane. So I will rather go with desperate.

Just out of curiosity... which other person are you thinking of who defends pedophiles and eats crap he picked off his bare feet at a conference while he is supposed to be presenting?

Well I didn't bother to view the youtube clip, and I will not defend the way RMS behave. I will not deny he is a "bit" excentric. But still in my point of view he is using the same way of presenting his message as you do Bryan. But again I know I was trolling with this message, I'll take a deep breath before i post next time.

View the clip. Also, he is not a "bit" eccentric. He defends pedophilia and eats stuff off his foot while giving a Q&A session. That's not eccentric. That's something else entirely. As for Stallman "using the same way of presenting his message as" I do... that makes no sense at all. Please tell me in what way that statement is true. Stallman has a tendency of "preaching to the choir". He takes the "easy" stances for the given audience (ie, at a Linux conference presenting an idea like "Open source good! Microsoft bad!" is simply pandering to the base). He also is very, very light on actual solutions to problems. He has talked for years about how software should be "Free", but gives very little information on how to accomplish that goal in given industries. Yet he is quick to chastise those companies and organizations that have not, for whatever reason, gone 100% "Free". He also defends pedophilia and eats stuff off his foot while he is a key speaker. Plus he comes across as a bit of a crazy mountain man.

Bryan wrote: He also defends pedophilia . This is something that does bother me when people talk about such subjects. You need to remember that pedophile does not equal child molester. Pedophiles are people who through no fault of their own were born with natural attraction to younger bodies. They can't help it. Vilifying them is the same as attacking homosexuals for being born with natural attraction to the same sex. Not all pedophiles molest children and in fact I'm sure most don't. Child molesters are however abhorrent and should be vilified. Most child molesters are probably not even actual pedophiles, just stupid horny opportunists. That said, I'm no fan of RMS but it's not fair to attack him over that view.

Re: Richard Stallman... please shut up.
Look, Stallman could have misspoke about pedophilia. Maybe he's like me, and enjoys philosophical debates about the most disgusting of subjects. What I'm saying: It might just have come out wrong when he said it. I won't go so far as to call anyone a pedophile or supporter of pedophilia over one remark, because you can so easily make mistakes.

Re: Richard Stallman... please shut up.
I had to research the net for those comments having never heard them from rms. Children are not mature enough to know what is right for them. There is no such thing as voluntary pedophilia. Part of the reason statutory rape is in the law books. If he believes such comments that is a real shame. If so, he might turn up missing after sundown in this part of the u.s.
In any case, one also might think that someone who uses an opponents comments having nothing to do with the debated subject to disparage the opponent show they can not win their argument intelligently and fairly. One would or should be more inclined to disregard all their comments.
