Hi, I'm new to JB and I specifically tune in to listen to the Linux Action Show.

I actually do tune in to hear the news, because if you're not deep within the developer/Linux community, it's a really good way to catch up on what interesting developments have taken place in that arena and getting some commentary on some main issues that may be at stake there. I don't think that would really change with people (probably other people) crowdsourcing news to JB, but I would like to make sure that there's some independent vetting of the stories, corroboration, etc.

That's what we do essentially. We pick the stories, submit them to our Buzz feeds and then monitor for the comments and follow up. But we still hold the ultimate choice on what makes it into the show.

But this process lets us get a broader input, often people have follow up details, or even just thoughts/comments that I should consider before I try to act like an expert on the Internet talking about something. It's really been working out great!

I won't use Buzz because of privacy concerns + I'm allergic to microblogging and all thing related. Now I feel a bit bad about it. Maybe after I have migrated my email out of GMail.
